Summary of Managing Oneself by Peter F. Drucker

What are my strengths?
The only way to discover your strengths is through feedback analysis.

  • Work on improving your strengths.
  • Discover your intellectual arrogance
  • Manners ( simple thank you and please)are lubrication oil of an organization.
How do I perform?
It is a matter of personality.

Am I reader or listener?

How do I learn?
How one performs is to know how one learns.
  • Method of learning: listening, writing, reading.

What are my values?
This is a mirror test. What kind of person do I want to see in the mirror in the morning?
Organization ,like people, have values. to be effective in an organization, a persons value must be compatible with the organization's values.

Where do I belong?
Highly gifted people do not really know where they belonged until they are mid-twenties.

What should I contribute?
Contain three elements: What does the situation require? How can I make the greatest contribution to what needs to be done? What results have to be achieved to make a difference?

Responsibility for Relationships
Managing yourself requires taking responsibility for relationships.
  1. To accept the fact that other people are as much individuals as you yourself are.
  2. Is taking responsibility for communication.
The Second Half of your Life
Begin a second career.
  1. To start one.
  2. Develop a parallel career.(A non-profit organization, social entrepreneurs)
  3. To develop it early.(Before 40)
  4. A second major interest becomes a plus point when tragedies occur.
